The Military Specification referred to as MIL-DTL-5541, “Military Specification, Chemical Conversion Coatings on Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys” covers chemical conversion coatings formed by the reaction of chemical conversion materials with the surfaces of aluminum and aluminum alloys. The current specification (2009) is MIL-DTL-5541F, which superseded MIL-C-5541E in July 2006. The specification is approved for use by all departments and agencies of the United States Department of Defense (DoD). Although prepared specifically for DoD applications, the standard is used for many commercial applications as well.
The MIL-DTL-5541 specification covers chemical conversion coatings that form protective coatings by chemical reaction with aluminum and aluminum alloy; these coatings are categorized by the following types and classes.
Type I: Addresses compositions containing hexavalent chromium.
Type II: Addresses compositions containing no hexavalent chromium.
Class 1A: Provides maximum protection against corrosion, whether painted or unpainted. This is a relatively thick film used as a final finish or pre-treatment to paint or powder coating, and it is typically gold, brown, or yellow depending on coating weight and alloy.
Class 3: Provides protection against corrosion where low electrical resistance is required. This is a thin film providing low contact resistance, and the coating weight is lower as is the corrosion resistance. There may be some advantages using this thinner film in bonding applications. This film typically appears to be a lighter color of gold.

Material Recommendations
Our engineers will conduct research and make material recommendations based on the information you provide us through a series of questions. There are several questions such as:
How is the product functioning?
Does it need to have flexible properties?
Does it need to exhibit excellent strength and impact resistance?
Will it be exposed to the sun, used in an automobile, or need to meet certain safety requirements?
Our engineers will then make material recommendations based on our findings. We also provide detailed descriptions of each materials and will identify current market uses, as well as advantages, disadvantages and current market pricing.
Process Recommendations
Very similar to Material Recommendations, we can provide recommendations on the type of metal Processes that will be best suitable for your product.
As technology increases, there are evolving processes and new technology available to make metal parts more efficiently and of better quality while not affecting the cost of production.
Part Design
Our network of Part Design Engineers can assist you with any level of Engineering Design needed. We can conduct a design analysis and identify any problem areas of your parts before you begin production.
Manufacturing Cost Analysis
Cost analysis can be used in business plans or for presentations to manufacturers. There is no better way to see the financial outlay of a new product than by doing a cost analysis. It includes estimated tooling costs, cost per part, labor, post processing, and several other areas of importance to understand the true cost of manufacturing.
With extensive experience in CNC turning, CNC milling and fabrication of a wide range of engineered plastics, stainless steels, metal alloys and other metals, We are ready to meet or exceed customers precision plastic machining and CNC machining metal and fabrication needs.
